Introducing the Green Willow Project ‘Habitat’ with artist Cherry Chung and Forest Schools practitioner Jane Doyle.
The Whitworth are delighted to have this piece in their community gardens as they gear up towards the Santiago Yahuarcarni exhibition ‘The Beginning of Knowledge’ on the 4th July. The willow piece, will be celebrated for the launch of this exhibition and is inspired by the themes Santiago Yahuarcarni exhibition ‘The Beginning of Knowledge’ connects to: habitat and our environment.
On the 29th April, the Whitworth, alongside artists Cherry Chung and Jane Doyle, welcomed Year 5 pupils from St Mary’s Primary, Levenshulme to celebrate their green willow public art installation in galleries community gardens. Both artists had been working with children at the school delivering workshops to create the piece using willow that had been growing in the school grounds.
This Arts Council England funded work is a 3-year project utilising artists in residence based at St Mary’s with nature as designer at its heart.
Keep an eye out for further details on Whitworth socials as they plan a summer programme event using willow and other natural resources for the 19th July, free for all attendees, from 11-3pm.
